About / Our Process
Step 1: Collect & Store
Standardized Logging Facilitates Standardized Analysis
Log Data Collection
- A standard logging format that ensures all parties can participate
- XML-based, making it easy to create and process log data
- Existing Open Learning Initiative (OLI) logging service leveraged to simplify
transfer of log data, making it reliable and secure
- Security ensured by OLI authorization and authentication service
Log Data Storage
- A raw data storage facility to store data for the long term for yet unformulated
research questions
Step 2: Analyze
Centralized Location for Maximized Collaboration
Analyze Log Data
- Student data de-identified by a Key Service
- Analyze transactions to populate the report tables, the first one of which is the
learning curve table
- Populate supporting data tables as needed
- Create New Skill Models
Early Analysis Support
- An open API to read/write to an analysis database
- Allows researchers to leverage standard reports for their own data during early
stages of analysis
- Allows researchers to develop their own reports, graphs, etc.
Step 3: Report
Anytime Anywhere
A Web Application
- View, analyze and extract log data on demand
- Built-in High Frequency Reports, e.g. standard learning curves, individual student
learning curves, help usage curves, and problem and skill profiles, all available by
"pushing a button"
- Low Frequency Reports, specific to your research question, customizable by us or
you
Data Extraction
- Ad hoc queries to filter data for use in external tools such as Excel, SPSS, etc.
